10-30 or 10- 40

Unless you plan on spending over $1000 US, I would avoid 10 power binos. They are simply more expensive to make well. Even well-made, with 10 power it's harder to hold the image steady and the field of view is narrower than a comparable 8x bino.

Everything you can see with a 10x bino you can see with 8x. You won't miss any ids. The image in the 10x will be a little bigger, but it will also be darker and less clear. I would recommend 8x42 binos for a first glass.


I have not liked 10x36, so probably not 10x30 either. Go for the 10x40.
