Please give thoughts on these 2, the pentax can be had new for 600-700 and the nikon can as well.
which one has better baffling/ less flaring?
sharpness to the edge?
contrast
brightness
they are similar in weight and size as well
Here is my thoughts.
baffling - flare - Tie
edge sharpness - Tie
Contrast - Nikon
Brightness - Pentax
FOV - Nikon (hugely easier view)
Chromatic Aberration control:WAY better in the Pentax ED
build quality/mechanics :WAY better in the Nikon,the Focuser of the Pentax seems flimpsy in comparison(it is not necessarily weak,but feels this way)
Ergonomics...The NIkon seems bulkier,and it has aunique design,I like the way they feel in the hand better ,and to me ,give a better balanced position
I think that the Pentax AR coatings are state of the art,and offer a bit better glare control in most lights..
All in all I would rather to spend that money in the Pentax,.I think they are more exciting and will hold their value better as well.Nikon HGL,LXL,can be found easier second hand for 400/450US $,The pentax ED series doesnt show to often in the secondary market
