Does it matter if binoculars are really ugly?

I was happy with my RSPB HG.PC 7x42 except for the weight, so I got the Leupold Yosemite 6x30, which I'm very happy with, except for the close focus (5 metres). Now I'm thinking I'd like to replace the Yosemite with something like the Leupold Katmai 6x32. The 8.1° FOV, 1.5m close focus and 515g weight seem ideal. But it costs the earth in this country.

The Opticron Traveller 6x32 looks like the same thing and would be my best bet, if it wasn't as ugly as sin. But there's a new model on the way from Vortex, the Fury 6.5x32, that looks interesting. This will also be very expensive here, but there might be a local clone of it too. So I'm wondering if I should wait to see if a Fury clone appears here or if Opticron upgrades the Traveller (they must know it looks like hell).

If you have experience of any of these models, I'd like to know how they perform in use. Also, is it superficial of me to let appearance play a part in the choice of binoculars? Are you influenced by looks?

Michael.

As long as the binoculars are optically good and robust, then no, looks don't matter.

Michael: Ditto Vectis------There's an old saying I just made up, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder. "
