Should Nikon Premier SE non waterproof be a deal breaker?

Hi,

I am getting ready to pull the trigger on the Nikon Premier SE 10 x 42 porro
binocular that I have been lusting over for 10 years now. However, I always
read that since they are NOT waterproof, they will not be as durable will have
a long life.

Should this be a deal breaker?? I have been using binoculars for over 20 years
and I have NEVER once either been caught in the rain, or used binoculars in
the rain, so I am wondering if the whole Not waterproof thing is way overblown? I am not an extreme birder who stands in the rain using binoculars! When its rain, I simply dont use binoculars outside.

Any folks here own the Premier SE for MANY years and how have they held up
over time?

Thanks!

By most accounts I've seen, while they're not guaranteed 100% waterproof/internally fogproof, they can stand up just fine to light rain.

They're maybe not the best choice for really wet environments like marine use, tropical jungles, etc. - but it sounds like it shouldn't be an issue for you at all!

Ah ha, you've answered your own question. "...I am not an extreme birder who stands in the rain using binoculars!" Besides, Nikon has an excellent no-fault warranty to cover anything else that happens to it. Enjoy the view.
