I want to get a pair of binocular for someone for a retirement gift. He is casually interested in birding but they would be used for other things too. Mid-sized 8x roof is the plan. Any favorites in the sub-$300 range that stand out besides the Nikon Monarch 8x36? Thanks for your opinions!
The trouble with small and mid size is there are not a lot of 8x30s or 8x32s worth looking. The Leupold Katmai is too narrow fov. Go for 8x42, look for a light weight model.

Tero,
Don't you use Eagle's 8 x 32 Ranger? That is under $300.00.
