Hi all,
I've dedicated the next two weeks to finding a Christmas gift for my wife that she'll love. At the moment we only have a couple of basic sets of binoculars, but I want to get her something more powerful. By budget is £200-£300, and I have no idea what to get her. I'm not even sure whether a scope would be better, or whether there are good combo deals around.
I'm sure people have asked this before, but I'm really hoping to just get an idea of the best brands in this price bracket, and maybe a couple of model suggestions.
Any help is much appreciated,
Dan
To get higher power you'll need to get a scope as high power bins are not for everyone. Another option woul dbe to get a decent pair of bins, it's amazing just how much more you can see with better quality optics. The new Nikon Monarch 8x36 are amazing quality at £199, well worth a look.
Remember though that a scope will mean a tripod too and this is a lot more stuff to carry out when birding, so be sure she'll be happy to carry it before your buy one. If you do think she'd like on then it's best to get along to a shop and try a few out - I'd recommend looking at the Opticron IS60, it will be very hard to beat for your budget. Also the new acuter 65mm scope is worth checking out, not quite as good as the IS60, but significantly cheaper.

Hello Dan,
A gift that your wife will like..............more chance of finding the Loch Ness Monster, it's a mythical thing, youv'e heard of it but nobody has actually found one!
On a more serious note, have a look at the Opticron travellers 8x32 (£200), Nikon Monarch 8x36 (£160) or the RSPB 8x32 (300). All are good value for the money IMHO.
Good luck on your quest for the Holy Grail of xmas presents.
Nick
