A Pain in the Neck

My other half was suffering a bit from her binoculars pulling on the back of her neck and causing discomfort over the course of the day. This was especially so when she was wearing a tee shirt with no collar to spread the load.

As she normally carries a small rucksack which incorporates a carrying handle at the top I came up with the idea of using a short adjustable webbing strap with plastic buckles and threading this through the rucksack handle and the binocular strap. I then tightened it enough to pull the strap away from the back of her neck and locked the buckle.

It seems to have done the trick and I no longer see her rubbing the back of her neck when it gets sore. It's of limited use as it requires the use of a backpack but it's worth trying if you have a similar problem and wear a suitable pack.

A lot of this still has to do with weight. People use 8x42s in the middle of the day in good light, when a 8x32 would give a much wider view, with less weight.

Seems like an idea worth exploring Ron, I too carry a back pack most of the time and when carrying my (very heavy but very good) Nikon HG 10x42, it can be tiring on the neck. Thanks for passing it on.
