Cameras and Lenses

A present

Hello All,

I came across this site while trying to research which binoculars to buy for my boyfriend who has decided he wants to take up birdwatching and i have to say that i have found everyones enthusiasm and wealth of knowledge fascinating. I think i might even now want to take up birdwatching with him!!!

The question i have, and i know it has been asked so many times before, so apologies, is that i want to buy some entry level binoculars for him. I have looked at the reviews on the site and looked at the prices out there and this is what i have kind of pulled together as my shortlist - any comments on the shortlist would be greatly greatly appreciated!

Nikon Action - 7 x 35 OR 8 x 40 OR 10 x 50 - at entry level which would be best? Also, do you think it is worth spending an extra £50 on getting waterproofs so the EX range - at which stage do waterproofs become really important to a birdwatcher?

OR do you think the Nikon Sporter range would be better?

OR forgetting everything i have said above, which would you buy for £100 or under.

Decisions, decisions....
