Hi,
I'm trying to find a suitable binocular that has a close interpupillary distance. I checked with my eye doctor and was told my IPD is 55mm.
Can anyone suggest a binocular that's mid-size, $300-450 Canadian.
I feel like I've been searching for ages and just not finding what I'm looking for. Mostly because they never seem to list the IPD in the specs.
Any help would be appreciated.
The Leupold Yosemite has an IPD range of 50-70. It is a porroprism design that comes in 6x30 and 8x30 configurations. They sell for $90 (USD) through Eagle Optics.
Despite the price the optics on the 6x30 are surprisingly nice and well worth considering.
After using a couple of high quality 10x binoculars for years, and I find the Yosemite 6x30 a breath of fresh air in terms of brightness, field of view, image stability, and crispness of the image. I love them.
For the price you really can't go wrong having these in the lineup.
Good luck.
I just checked the specification chart for my Nikon 8 x 32 SE. The IPD range is 53mm to 73mm. It is also the same for the 10 x 42 and 12 x 50 models. These are Porro Prism binoculars, of course. I don't have a spec sheet for my other Nikon Porro's, the 8 x 30 and 10 x 35 EII models but their IPDs look to be the same as near as I can tell with a micrometer. The 8x models are both pleasantly compact, but not too small.
Both the SE's and EII's have been recently discontinued, but they are such superb binoculars (among the finest Porro's ever made!) that they are well worth searching for. The EII's are less costly and would be within, or even below, your price range. The SE's would likely be above it, but if you find one, seriously consider buying it. There may be some still sitting on dealer's shelves if you look for them.
Good luck in your quest.
