Anyone know of OK 12X binos in $300-$400 range?

Greetings everyone,
A friend is looking to buy 12x binos - he's a magnification freak - and wants recommendations. His budget is $300-$400.00. A few I've seen online are Nikon Monarch 12X42 & 12x46, Eagle Optics SRT 12X50, Leupold Olympic 12X50, Bushnell Legends 12X50 and Vortex Vulture 12X50. Anyone have any experience with any of these?

He obviously knows he won't get the best views; these are designed to complement his other (lower powered) binos.

Thanks for comments and suggestions.

I have a feeling in this price 42mm will be a bit dim, so check out the 50mm models. And they will be big and bulky and feel powerful.

Hi Common Raven, I got Canon IS 12x36 to "complement" my other binos as well, because I like to have the option of extra oomph. They have become my regular bins of choice now, I like them so much. They cost me 500 euro, which was a bargain here, not sure how much they´d be in dollars stateside. I´d strongly recommend them, the Image Stabilisation feature makes 12x a very usable proposition for all except close-up and dense cover work. They are as light as my 8x32 Swaros, and very comfortable. They are amazingly bright for 36mm objectives, and the IS more than compensates for the fact that the glass isn´t as good as "top-enders". Tell your friend to give them a go! (Tero doesn´t approve of ´em, says they´re wimpy...but I don´t mind, I can do Wimpy!)
