In reading another thread here ( http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=209889 ) I started thinking about getting another set of Nikon HG's as a back-up. Not to be confused with the HGL's which is the new and "improved" version. Given that they, like the SE's, are becoming more difficult to get I figured it might not be a bad idea. But I have to wonder just how prudent such a purchase would be.
Basically I pose the question..
Do you have a back-up pair of your favorite bin's stored away somewhere? and if so, are you content with knowing they're just sitting there (in the voice of Foghorn Leghorn) "For just such an emergency".?.
I think that the old HGs will be hard to find. I think you mean the older heavier ones, if I'm not mistaken. They also had the old lead glass I think. Brock will know more about them. He should be back here when he dries out from this weeks storm going through Pennsylvania. The HG Ls (LX Ls in the USA-but they came in a box that said HG L-I know because that's what my boxes say-go figure!) replaced them and there are a lot of them around. Now Nikon calls them "Premier."
Actually they are good enough-especially in the 32mm versions-to be your prime binocular and tough enough to be a car binocular.
