My son asked me to recommend some general purpose binoculars for when he is out hiking and camping. He is not a birdwatcher but does appreciate all wildlife in a general sense.
His budget is about £250 and his only important criteria is that they be "not too heavy."
What would you recommend? I thought something about the 8x32 size maybe but which make at this price I don't know.

i got my wife a pair of opticrom 8x32 for about £150 seem pretty good and not too heavy
Minox BL 8x32 BRs could be worth a look. They are light, get good reviews and cost about £190-£210.
