Big head! HELP!

Due to my central european ancestry I have inherited a large teutonic head. I have to get my spectacles specially made. I am having difficulty buying a pair of binoculars because my inter-pupillary distance (IPD) is 78 mm. The national average IPD in the UK is 62mm Most manufacturers only seem to make binoculars that cope with a maximum IPD of 75mm, such as my current pentax and zeiss. Last week I tried ALL the binos for sale at RSPB Radipole and none were large enough. I have two questions. Where can I get binoculars that fit me, and secondly does anyone know of any research into variation of IPD? ( I am a research scientist) I believe the negro races have greater IPD in general than caucasian.
Thanks
Nigel

Nigel,

I have a friend with the opposite problem, 52mm IPD. I have two binoculars with 78mm IPD, a Nikon 7X50 Prostar and a Pentax 10X50 PIF. Unfortunately both are individual focus, marine type binoculars and quite heavy. I have an old pair of Leitz Marseptit 7X50 with 76mm IPD. I suspect your best chance will be with large old fashioned porros like that. If the IPD of the binocular isn't quite wide enough a large exit pupil would at least allow both your eye's pupils to stay within the binocular's exit pupils even if they can't both be perfectly centered.

Henry[/QUOTE]Hi Henry
Thanks for that helpful information. I think that I'll have to go for some of the older models. You were my first reply. I was beginning to get worried that noone could help me . Thanks again. Nigel
