Decent if you want something cheap to look around your back yard at night, otherwise they're pretty low quality commercial 1st gen, most likely Russian. Not the longest service life, and pretty low resolution. However they do work.
A camcorder with active IR will be heaps better in close range, but the 1st gen will have better range.... probably 75-100m at best.
Spend a couple hundred more and you can probably get really nice military grade gen1+ or gen2, which will last a lot longer and have better resolution.
