Hello everone!
I have recently taken up birdwatching and now need a decent pair of bins. I'm looking ata pair of "Optolyth 10x40 touring" on ebay. Never heard of these
are they any good? (and what should they cost) or does anybody have other sugestions.
Kenbo,
I don't know this model, but perhaps others do. I did a quick search and it looks like it was available in the early 1990s and sold for about $600 in the US at the time. It looks like the eye relief is too short for glasses if that is important and had a close focus of 16ft (5m) which is quite long by today's standards. It wasn't cheap back then, but I couldn't say how it would compare to more modern offerings.
I should point out that most would advise that 10x is a bit high for general birding. You might find that the view is steadier with a 8x or less with the advantage of a wider view.
Good luck,
David
Thanks Typo
I was thinking in that direction myself.
