The other night I was rolling the focus wheel back and forth on my new Nikon Monarch 10x42 and noticed that at the far-focus side of the action, the wheel came to an abrupt and satisfying stop. But at the close focusing side it just sort of got tighter until you couldn't move it anymore. I should mention that one of the disappointments of these bnoculars was that I never got the 9 foot close-focusing that was advertised. Mine was more like 12-15 feet.
So I was mindlessly pushing back and forth on the close-focus side when I heard a gassy 'pop', sort of like opening a coke can, and the wheel kept on turning until it came to a now abrupt and satisfying stop.
Now I can close-focus to about 6 feet with perfect clarity.
My big fear is that I burst some internal nitrogen-purged seal. My hope is that it was a section that was not intended to be sealed anyway.
Does anyone know about where the seals are located?
Has anyone heard ever this sound before or know what happened?

I doubt it - chances are a bit of something was caught in the mechanism. Close focus seems to me to very much depend on your own eyes - I find different people can see closer / further with the same pair of bins.
I'd phone Nikon and explain this to them - I don't think this should have happened but it might now be fine.

You have a warranty on those binoculars. Just take a shower with them, turn the waterfrom warm (not hot) to cold several times, and see if they fog. If they do, send them back to Nikon.
