I'm starting to look into replacing my venerable (1984) Dialyt 10x40s, and would like some assistance in reducing the amount of legwork involved.
My glasses presciption is -6 in both eyes, which is bad enough that I can't get infinity focus using some binoculars. However I prefer to use binoculars without using glasses when possible - it's another 2 surfaces to get mucky, the glasses get rain on, and looking through photochromics does nothing for the brightness of the view.
Zeiss do quote "centre drive adjustability" figures for their binoculars (-7 for the FLs), but as far as I can make out none of the other manufacturers give any information about it at all (It's NOT the +/- dioptre figure, which is for difference between left and right eyes).
Does anyone know of any source of information, or have a similar presription and experience of using the other brands?
I'd be looking at Ultravid, HGL,EL, SLC etc, probably 8x42.
if i were you i would do the legwork. Surely you are not more that 100 miles away from a binoculars dealer. It would be in your interest to try binoculars. Within a model, 7x42 may be good for you and 10x42 may not.
I am in exact same situation, except I have -5.5. It's much easier to use binos without eyeglasses. I would love to see a list of Leica/Zeiss/Swaro that can accomodate this center drive limit.
