I'm a long-time user of Leica 10x42 bins (and previously Leitz 10x40) and I always carry around a scope. I'm thinking about downsizing to 8x42 or 8x32. Will I regret the loss of the extra 2x mag ? I'm aware of the pros and cons, but I'd like to here from birders who have made the switch.

I wouldn't do it for all the tea in China. But that, as with all optics questions, is a personal opinion.

I have successively upgraded my binos from 8x via 9x to (very recently) 10x and I am very happy with that.
(Maybe I'll step back if I eventually becomes less fit than at present so that I can't carry around the scope and everything without getting puffed out and shaky.)
