Edge sharpness and are Alphas worth it?

Shortly after joining the forum, I purchased a pair of 8x32 Vortex Fury binos, but over the last couple of months I have been looking to upgrade. I made a trip to Bass Pro and up to NYC to see the bino and camera shops and demo a bunch of binos. But I have a few questions.

1. Is the edge sharpness of the Aphas worth it?
When I look thru binos, I see the entire FOV but my real focus is directed to the central 50%, with the rest seen as pheriphery vision. When I try to look at the edges, I get some vignetting or blackening of the edges, and the only way I can see the edge is to cant or angle the bino slightly. What is the purpose of these expensive Alphas that advertise edge to edge sharpness such as the Swaros is you can't really use it?

2. In comparing many $300-$500 range binos to the $1500-$2000 alphas, I really did not notice a dramatic increase in brightness, contrast, or resolution. Sure there was some, but what makes these things worth $1500 more?

thanks
Irene

For me, the answer is yes.

I am getting older,
my eyes are not as good as they once were,
so I want the best optics I can afford to compensate.

Irene,

Why do you want to upgrade? Are there particular issues you have with the 8x32 Vortex Fury?
