How to best protect optics with all the volcanic ash floating around the EU. I have seen some spectacular photos and this implies people are out with camera gear and bins. Seems obvious to us to blow off or rinse the lenses but any other ideas that could help should be passed on, such as how to keep the ash out or remove it from the focus mechanism. This stuff is far worse than ordinary dirt-dust. Hope everyone in the EU is doing well and best wishes.
Thanks Statestat! Iīm on the NW fringes, so our Met Office tells us allīs well here, the cloud is moving Eastwards. Mind you, two days ago everyone noticed very fine dust on their cars, with little shiny particles, and the Met Office announced it was "unlikely" this was from the volcano in Iceland. Today they have changed their tune and says it is "probably" from the volcano. This evening, under clear skies, the air smells a bit thick to me, not the usual crystal clear, cold air we get on High Pressure evenings in April. And my eyes are itchy. I wonder what the air is like further East...any British, Low Countries, Scandinavian, German or Polish BFers like to comment?
Clear blue skies here in Germany with no vapour trails but no signs of ash either.
Those living near airports are thankful for some peace and quiet but thousands are stranded.
The flight ban has been extended until tomorrow and we just had a Lufthansa representative on TV disputing its necessity and alleging that the presence of the ash cloud was based merely on computer simulations and the Transport Minister saying he was not going to compromise safety.
