I was looking back through some references to field flatteners, since this is now being touted by the exciting new Swarovision.
Nikon advertised the SE series like this: Nikon - Sharp, clear images to the lens periphery, thanks to Nikons original field flattener lens and eyepiece design.
Evidently, Nikon has carried that through with the LX, LXL and now the EDG models, as the edge performance with these is excellent also.
Now the new Swarovision describes it this way:
Field Flattener Lenses - The new Swarovision technology eliminates all loss of sharpness and distortion at the edges of the binoculars field of view. The edges are razor sharp with no distortion.
What are some thoughts here, really nothing new, but it seems the effort
requires a lot of careful engineering.

Razor sharp edges. That should be something to see. I can't wait for the new Swarovision's.
