Hello,
Please forgive me if this is a stupid question, but something is bothering me about the new Nikon Monarch 8x42 binoculars I just bought.
For the focus wheel, I turn it left to focus on something farther away and to the right for things closer to me. When I look at a bird not very far away, the focus wheel is always way to the left and often I cannot get a sharp focus on the bird because I am at the end of how far the wheel can go. Is this normal?
I've had other cheapie pairs of binoculars and no matter what I was focusing on, I don't think I ever got to the end of the focus wheel. I was looking at a crow at the end of my driveway today, and I moved the wheel left to focus on it. It became clearer as I got to the end of the wheel movement, but it seemed like I needed to go a little more for it to be focused better but I couldn't.
Granted, I know I didn't buy a spotting scope, but I guess it seems to me like I should be able to get a sharper focus on birds that are farther away from me.
Thanks for any help.
Take them back to the shop you purchased them from - there should always be a small amount of focus wheel overrun, even at infinity...you focus to an object on the horizon ( or the moon if visible) and then then should be left a small amount of further turning resulting in the object no longer in focus.
