We had some discussion of FOV in this thread
http://www.birdforum.net/showthread...8832#post538832
but there is a lot of material to read through. I would just like to list here separately some info on various roof prisms. I got my data from Eagle Optics.
You can list your own data for a model that you like. I presume most of us would like at least 300ft FOV at 1000 yards.
Celestron Noble 10x42 FOV 314 ft
Celestron Noble 10x50 FOV 262ft
Nikon Monarch 10x42 FOV 314
Nikon Monarch 10x36 FOV 314....new model, data is in another thread
http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=51585
Nikon Monarch 10x56 FOV @ 1000yds (ft.): 315
Eagle Optics Denali 10x42 293ft
Zeiss Conquest 10x30 BT FOV 288Ft
Nikon Premier LX L 10x32 FOV 340ft
Nikon Premier LX L 10x42 FOV 314ft
In most cases the bigger lens gets smaller FOV in similar models. On the other hand, different models have different eye pieces, so I am not sure how that affects things. But see the experts below. Curiously the three Monarchs are all the same at 10x.
Someone else can list the 8x models.
Tero,
My comments in the Nikon thread were specifically in reference to the 8x models that I have experience with or that I am familiar with their specs. For example....
8x32 LX (405 feet)
8x42 LX (365 feet)
8x42 Monarch (330 feet)
8x36 Monarch (365 feet)
Just about every 8x roof prism model I am familiar with has a larger field of view when the objective diameter shrinks.
Yes, seems to hold for 8x. Not necessarily for 10x.
