Gift Advice

I want to get my wife a decent pair of binoculars for our upcoming anniversary. She's currently using a cheap, no-name 8 x 25. I've been doing a lot of reading on this so far and have narrowed down my current choices.

She doesn't like things that are big. As far as which brand, I'm leaning towards a Nikon Monarch 8 x 36 or Eagle Optics Ranger 8 x 32. These are both priced very similar and have good warranties. I'm hoping that either of these would fit in a pocket of my travel vest when we're hiking. A third option in the same price range is the Monarch 8 x 42. But it's an inch longer, which would make it a little more bulky.

Anyone have any advice, suggestions or personal experience (pro or con) with what I'm looking at.

Thanks for your help.

Look at the Pentax 9 x 28 LV. My wife likes it quite a bit. It got 4 nice reviews on Eagle Optics website. Check it out here:http://www.eagleoptics.com/binocula...prism-binocular

It will definitely fit into the pocket of your travel vest and with a single hinge it is easy to use and it also has long eye-relief if she wears glasses like my wife.

Depends on what you mean by "big"; but I'd call the Nikon 8x42s "full sized", the Nikon 8x36 and Ranger 8x32 "mid sized" (and the 8x25's you've got now "compact").

The Rangers are nice, and the smallest of the three if that's a priority...but still too big, I think, for comfortable "shirt pocket" carry - maybe "coat pocket" sized, if that makes sense?
