How I carry my bins

Just in case anybody might find this useful.

I discovered this quite a few years ago, because I like to carry my bins with me whenever I'm out, whatever I'm doing.

Rather than the usual 'round the neck thing, I use a long leather strap with a buckle in it for adjustment. I get between 40 and 55 inches this way. Like a bandoleer or the strap on a shell bag, I carry the bins over my shoulder so that the strap is over my right clavicle, the bins hanging at waist level or thereabouts on the left.

Depending on what I'm doing, the bins are behind my back, at the side, or in front. This makes even large, heavy bins light and easy to carry, they aren't in the way, they don't swing out like a pendulum every time I bend forward; you can do everything from paddling a canoe to riding a bike to shouldering a rifle without interference. And besides, it looks cool.

If your current carry method is troublesome, give this a try, you might like it.

Longbow,
You are absolutely right. I carried a rather heavy 8x42 this way, and still do this with my big 3+ pound 7x50 Fujinon. In addition to the advantages you gave, this bino also rests against the body nicely when carried this way, despite the fact that the strap attachment eyes, like most porros in this idiotic way, are not on the sides of the bino, but underneath, causing an awkward dangle angle when carried around the neck.

The disadvantages are, it takes an extra second or two to get the binocular up to the eyes, which can cost a bird now and then, and it interferes with backpacks and jackets you might want to put on over the strap. But I still use the method, rather than a harness, because you are just not going to get me into one of those suckers!
