How to test out new Binoculars?

I am considering upgrading my Binoculars and am planning to test at either In Focus or Kay Optics next field day
Swarovski 8x42 EL
Zeiss 8x42 Victory FL
Leica Ultravid .

At present I use Opticron Imagic 8x42 BGA WP PC.ASF T OASIS

I have read alot about these great bins on the forum and appreciate that at this level of quality the final choose may come down to personal preference.

However I would like to hear any advice as to how to test these various models, any techniques times of day or suggestions to ensure I get to see the best and worst in each.

Cheers

It's fairly easy really.
Are they comfortable in the hand?
Is the center image sharp?
Is the edge focus good, not always the case in budget models.
Does the image tone reflect the original verbatim?
Is the build what you expect for the price IE no slop in the focus mechanism and diopter that don't move on there own?
Is there any colour fringing seen on high contrast images? This is CA or chromatic aberration ruins star gazing and once you notice it, you always will!
You will know the right binocular for you, it will please you as soon as you look through it.
