I've heard here several times that these low priced compacts, $100 are all junk. I have several pairs and even my nikon 7x21 sprints give impressive views imo considering what they are. Is this a case of pure ignorance on my part or is it hubris and elitism? I enjoy their light weight portability. They are often very comfortable to use for me at least and for daytime viewing seem pretty bright and even clear and crisp. Even though the FOV can be wanting I just can't see them as junk.
Enlighten me.
One mans's trash is another's treasure. There certainly is junk enough for very little money to be bought. Satisfaction (or not) with cheap stuff depends on luck of the draw and what use it will be put to, and expectations you have from it. There is always some brand snobbery and I suppose some elitism at work at some level, but if they work for you, frankly it does not matter what somebody else thinks.
Beware the birder with one binocular, they might know how to use it. Beware the slip into the optics abyss, ignorance is sometimes bliss. Be aware it is there and watch how you navigate the sharp edge of reality.
I hope the day never dawns for me when I can't take pleasure out of second and third place.
