I don't understand why so many people have a high regard for FOV, because in my limited experience birding I find most birds I view are 100 yards away or less. And at that range a 300 ft. FOV is a mear 10 ft. less than a 400 ft. FOV bin. Is that correct? Am I missing something? Please clue in a novice.
Thanks, Nick
in a dense jungle or wood it's amazingly important
and when watching raptors or seabirds

I reckon there's a lot more to binoculars than just a tool for locating and identifying birds, and I'm sure that's true for many others.
A larger field of view gives a more aesthetically pleasing image, especially if edge sharpness is maintained, and puts birds more into their natural environment when observing them. To me, that's an important part of why I enjoy birding.
