just rec'd new 8x42 ULTRAVIDS
WOW, I havent found anythign I dont like about this binocular! Where it beats the other euro bino's is compact size. It's just not as long or wide as the other 8x42 flavors from zeiss and swarovski. I know this is do to zeiss's ABK prisms but why is swaro so much larger than the ultravid?

I am not sure if this was a reason for their size initially but their open style bridge design allows the user to wrap their hand around the barrel of the bin much like the old porro designs. A shorter, more compact barrel may defeat that benefit. I have often heard folks complain that the Bushnell Elite (with its own open bridge connection design) isn't as comfortable since the gap between the hinges is too short to comfortably get all of your fingers between them.
Just a thought.
