Hi graybold,
Welcome to BF.
Your friends binoculars are an unfamiliar brand, at least to me. The name sounds German, but there was not afaik a German supplier of that name, so it is probably an Asian make that was sold under a Western name.
Price of such glasses is low, maybe $50 tops, largely because you can get a new, waterproof Nikon Action Extreme7x50 for $120. UK prices are probably a bit higher.
You say the glass is military style, if that means the eye pieces focus individually, the glass will be unsatisfactory for birding, because it is such a pain to refocus both eyepieces the same amount quickly. However, they might then also be somewhat more water resistant.
If you like the glass, you can get a harness or a wide photographers strap fairly cheaply to offload the weight.
I believe Konig is one of the brand names of Nedis BV a large multinational Dutch consumer product supplier. As such they will buy in from many sources. I don't think a military style 7x50 is in their current binocular catalogue so the trail stops there probably.
