Hello squidkid,

I seem to recall reading that Vortex does not really permit much in the way of price variation among dealers. There is a $100 or so cut from the list price they can make for the vipers, but that is about it.

Their binoculars are already priced very competitively, and so presumably do not have that much fat in the profit margin. So I think their theory is that they want to maintain decent profitability for all their dealers, and avoid having certain high volume deep discounters dominate sales and squeeze out the smaller dealers. If you do get a significant discount, that might be something that is against company policy.

If, as I suspect, you will not find much in the way of price variance, then you would want to look for the dealers that offer the best service. I bought mine from Eagle Optics. Birdwatching.com is another online dealer I would consider. I am sure there are other good ones -- online as well as locally -- as well.

Hope this helps,
Jim
