Med power & Mid price pt, which one?

I have a 8x21 cheapo minolta/japan that my 10 yr old uses when we hunt. They are light and cheap but as she's gotten older, they are simply inadequate for anything other than bright light. I'd like a mid power, lighter wt, some compactness with good low light performance for her, without spending too much (i know, tall order). Personally, I've been satisfied with the 8x42 series Vortex and Bushnell legend for good magnification and low light but they are too expensive and too heavy for my 10 yr old so perhaps 6 power+- 1 and a exit pupil close to 5 for low light performance and fully multi coated.

Is there anything in the $100-125 range that will do what I'm seeking? I'd be happy to spend less but not sure i can get what i need. Something as compact as possible is preferred. Any suggestions?

Here is a good suggestion, and that is the Leupold Yosemite 6x30, they will fit the narrow face of children, and has a very nice, bright view.
Search back here on the Leupold subforum, many happy users. There is a new model out now, and the older one is the one reported on, both should be good.

I will look into the yosemite but not sure how available they are. also, a porro is a little bulkier than i was hoping for vs. a roof. Any other suggestions are appreciated
