Mid Price 8x32 advice.

When I first set out to upgrade my old binoculars, I was set on 8x42 and did in fact try some out. It was only after I tried a friend's 8x32's that I realised their smaller size and weight plus larger FOV outweighed the advantages of the 8x42's. To that end Ive changed tack and am now looking for some 8x32's. My budget is about £400. Ive seen the ex demo Minox HG's at Sherwood's for £415 and also like the look of the Opticron Imagic and Vortex HD Fury which are within budget. Is there anyone out there who can give some advice on the above models or are there other models that I should be considering. I do appreciate that there is nothing like handling each set and that is something that I intend to do. Incidentally I can source a pair of Vortex Viper's (non HD) locally for £200 is this a better buy at half what I'm planning to spend.

Many Thanks.

My advice is to spend as much as your budget allows. Best bang for the buck, yes, and more bucks means more BANG!

In my opinion you'll always regret not spending (more) money on binoculars!!!

If you do want to spend less and get a super pair (and don't wear spectacles, or absolutely need waterproof) there's the Opticron 8x32 SR.GA porro. I own them and like them very much!

I think the £400 price point is a tricky one. Certainly those ex-demo Minox would be my choice at the moment. I've not tried the x32, but the x43 are pretty slim for the format, and I'd try both if you get a chance. The Opticron lines are being reshuffled at the moment. The glass from the Imagic is being transferred to the new Verano HD, so there may be some deals around. There is a Verano ED-X due out shortly as well. Another to consider might be the Bushnell Legend Ultra HD. The UK prices have been very high compared to the US, but appear to be getting more reasonable. If you can get to Sherwoods have a look at the Meopta Meopro 6.5x32. It may surprise you. The Meostar is over budget.

I like the Opticron SRGA as well!
