hi there new to this site and it is a great one, looking to get new binos and was thinking minox hg 10x43 (china assembled) or the zen ray 10x42 ed2, prices are within 100.00, so which ones would you get and why , thanks
Optically, the ZR ... the ED objective (and the EP that controls CA) make a significant difference. And thats true of any ED glassed bin. It really is a step up especially if the bin controls lateral CA too.
The Minox APO version (Germany made?) has ED glass. I've not seen a review yet.
And this is even comparing them to "top end" non-ED bins with ED bins e.g. my Zeiss Victory 8x40 and Meopta 8x32 which I both like for ergonomic and "ease of view" reasons but the crispness of the view and saturation of the color is certainly improved with ED glass (oh, for a Meopta 8x32 with ED objective).
But that's all my generalized opinion. The only really way to know is to try them. Perhaps the ergonomics/size/weight of the Minox will be the winner for you?
Just a note, the Minox HG are made in Japan (the older models) and the newer ones in Germany.
