Just wondering if anyone has tried neutral density filters on their binoculars for use in (bright) daylight in order to dilate eye pupils which in turn much improves the experience of moving your eyes around the field of view without blackouts. Is this sensible? I haven't tried the filters myself but I did notice that beginning with late afternoon my ability to explore the periphery of the visual field increases noticeably.
Thanks to this great forum I learned about the Nikon 8x30 EII (thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthan...) so I think you know what I mean by exploring the visual field! 70 degrees AFOV! |

So I have 2 questions:
Jan:
I am hoping some others will also respond to your thread, but most all quality makers
have maximized the view. And that does not include filters.
I have the Nikon 8x30, and it does not need any additional help, just enjoy.
Hello Jan,
My ophthalmologist is of the opinion that visual acuity decreases when you pupils are dilated. Driving at night truly disturbs her for that reason.
Happy bird watching,
