Now for the kid

As told in the other post I now own a very nice SLC 8x30.

Now I want to treat my 13 year old boy to a nice pair of binoculars. He wasn't much into birding until I started shopping for my pair recently. I've done a little research and think I have it narrowd down to two binoculars but we know what happened last tim eI thought I had narrowed it down.

I want to spend about $250 for him. I am comparing the Bushnell 7x26 Custom and the Celeston 8x32 Noble. The Noble has the field of view and waterproofing advantage but he is not the type of kid to go birding in bad weather. The Custom, as I have read on some old reviews, is top notch optics. I was thinking the Customs would provide an image quality closer the SLC I have just now gotten.

Again thank you for the help, this time and last time.

Possibly. There are actually only a few few cheaper 8x32s out there. But try the Monarch 8x36, to get a fairly wide field and easy to use but a bit brighter than 8x32.

For an 8x32 the Opticron SR.GA is almost on a par with the SLC. The SR.GA is lighter and brighter, has better FOV and close focus, equal resolution and slightly worse contrast. Where it doesn't match up is in edge sharpness and use with glasses. It's still a lot cheaper than the Custom Compact.
