Hi,
I have been using my Bushnell Legend 8x42 porros today and have been thinking about how much I prefer the view through porros compared to roofs. Even when comparing to roofs of much higher price. Even though the Legends don't have as large a sweetspot and they are larger and heavier and in theory are a "lesser" (for want of a better word) binoclular, I still really really love using them. For some reason they suit me. There is something extra there that I can't define.
So I have come to the conclusion that it is because they are porros that they suit me. Or, put another way, I am a porro person.
Now, I bought the Legends in March when the weather was fairly chilly (around 0-2 C in the mornings perhaps) and the focus wheel was stiff to start with. I'm not sure if it loosened up with use or the warmer weather. It may well be that come winter they will stiffen up again.
So my question is:
Does anyone know any porros that definitely work well in the cold?
There must be other porro people out there who have worked out which ones are cold-friedly :) If my Bushnells start to freeze up this winter, I want to know which other porros to try instead. Anything in the 7/8x40/42/50 considered. In fact, I would especially like to try some 7x42s.
Thanks very much
Martin
I have the Legend 8x42 porros also. They were quite stiff when new, and they have loosened up with use. I haven't used them much in cold weather, so I can't really say how much they might stiffen up in the cold.

Hi BinoBoy,
mine were not only stiff but had a 'bump' half way through the turn of the focus wheel. Glad to say it soon eased off.
Do you yours much or are they more of a back up pair? How do you like them?
I have just started a new thread about how they are no longer on Bushnells website. I think they must be out of production so if you like them enough to want another pair, you better snap them up while you can.
Best wishes
Martin
