Price Bandings for Binoculars



Are binoculars similar to many consumer items where the quality between different brands is not especially marked for a particular price range and you have to move to the next price range to see any marked improvement. if so anyone care to comment on what those ranges are

e.g. Up to £200 Budget to reasonable quality but if you spent up to say £300 the build construction improves. £300 - say £500 further improvement in optical quality and well built. Over £500 law of diminishing returns applies possibly.

I think you are correct. The difference between say £50 & £150 is massive. Again between £150 & £300 you can easily see a difference. After that you have to go up a big jump to see relatively little difference. I could not justify the extra price for what seems small improvement. I found that after £350 I was struggling to see much improvement. I know that those who have spent £1000+ will disagree but I suppose individual eyesight will have some effect.


I guess you should spend what you can reasonably afford, no point spending £1000 and being poor when you could spend £350 and be happy. If you're flush in the money department £1000 would perhaps not be much problem if you are really into binoculars. But for most people...
