Years ago, I remember seeing an ad in a magazine (which I think could have been the RSPB's own quarterly mag) that featured the one-time BBC newsreader/one-time president of the RSPB Robert Dougall endorsing a particular brand of binoculars.....
I believe the blurb went.... 'I recommend these binoculars to any discerning birdwatcher.'
At the time, I used to get great mileage making fun of the advert by repeating the sales pitch to my brother in as plummy a voice as possible (imitating Robert Dougall).....well, we were kids....and daft ones at that!
Anyway, what I'd like to find out is what brand of binoculars Robert Dougall was advertising/endorsing? For some reason I've always thought it was Swift Audubons.....but whilst I vividly remember taking the pee out of the advert, memory fails me when it comes to its raison d'etre....
Apologies in advance for such trivia.....but it's really bugging me now.....
Can you help an older, wiser, but still average birdwatcher sleep soundly tonight....?

As I recall this was the Swift Osprey 7.5x42 porro, not the Audubon; I think I read it in a magazine somewhere 1978/1980.
Your quote from the advert rang a bell... The Osprey is now discontinued (?).
