Smith and Wesson Optics- bino's

I have heard these are made by Hakko in Japan. Somewhere in Japan. I saw a pair of the 8x32 and they were very bright and sharp and at a awesome price at our local store.
$134 usd. Any comments???

Gun people making optics? Hmmm... This sounds interesting.

I've had mine for about two weeks now, bought off ebay from the USA ( instantauctions in USA ) for about $70 + post+VAT and the post offices £8 charge brought the price up to about £70, just about the same price that a UK seller on Ebay is selling them for new. I bought the 8x32's, after buying the 10x25's off ebay for about £35 all in from the USA ( same site ). Obviously I must have been impressed, buying the 8x32's so soon after buying the 10x25s.

The specs on the 10x25's are:
Fully multi-coated,
Phase coated Prisms,
BAK-4 high index glass ( whatever that means )
Twist up eyecups.
Rainshield
"Unlimited" eye relief?
12.1 Oz
Close focus on mine is about 5 foot.
Field of view 5 deg 262ft at 1000 yards

Specs on the 8x32 are:
the same as above, with the following changes.
Field of view 393ft at 1000 yards, 7.5 degree's
18.6 Oz
Close focus on mine, about 40 inches?.

The best bins I have owned so far are Nikon Monarch 8x36. Optically the S & W's are sharper, but the close focus and depth of field are miles better.

My eyes arn't good enough, or I'm not critical, enough to judge whether I see any abberations ( I don't think I do though ). The view is very pleasing and the handling and balance is good. The eyecups don't have stops between in and all the way out, but there is a positive click when twisted all out. Both of the bins are made in Japan and the models are SWB1025 and SWB832.
The only thing I don't like is the garish S & W logo on the rainguard!

The bins look identical to the 10x25 and 8x32 RSPB BG.PC range with similar sounding specs.

My Monarchs will be going on Ebay very soon!.

If you want a pair of medium spec bins for a budget price, these are the ones.
