So what's the problem with Vanguards?

Hi all from a newbie.

Like many others I'm trying to make some sort of sensible buying choice for my first "serious" bins and I've found this forum to be helpful but at the same time extremely confusing (you know the one about "If you're not confused you're not paying attention?).

One frustration is the lack of considered comment (that I can find) on the Vanguard Endeavour ED 8.5x45. I've seen a couple of very good reviews in other places including here http://www.bestbinocularsreviews.co...deavorED-42.htm but although it's mentioned in several newbie shortlists, comments here are either absent or dismissive, for example here: http://www.birdforum.net/showthread...+endeav*&page=3 where it appears to come out extremely well on a large test.

It retails here in the UK for £300 which is my budget, so tell me why I shouldn't buy what looks like a rather obvious excellent choice on paper. It would be good to hear from people who own or have tested this bin specifically.

Thanks in advance.
Bruce.

They sure look nice on paper.

I'm sure there are other bins that slip through the cracks here. So you can be the first to review them for us.

For me, I like a lighter pair of bins.

From my experience...two words...Quality Control.

On paper I would agree that their bins certainly look attractive...especially their prices.

My experience with them surrounds three binoculars. I purchased three of their models over the last 3 or 4 years. Each of the units I received arrived with significant quality control issues...exceptionally stiff and unusable focuser and diopter issues.

For these reasons I have chosen not to purchase another bin from their lineup.

I cannot speak for others.
