I had to return a pair of new Zeiss Victory 8x20 bins since the view was not as good as my 6 year old pair. Gasp, unfortunately the 'clip-lock' connector receiver on my Steiner Peregrine XPs broke early this week, I miss them already. I also had a new pair of Swarovski 8x30 SLC Neu that I purchased with a stiff focus wheel. Actually after a very nice, but persistent BF member talked me out of my 7x30 SLC bins with the smoothest focus on earth, but I was able to upgrade.
Being somewhat scientific I thought what a great experiment. All three pair of bins mailed today.
The Swaro representative was very kind and insisted that Swaro would gladly smooth the focus and clean and refurbish the 8x30 SLCs. She sounded sad when I said they are only 2 months old and that a cleaning would not be necessary, but brightened up when I agreed to let them clean them anyway. She insisted that they pay for the return shipping. Nice!
The Zeiss representative was very helpful as well, but just wanted me to send them in for the techs to look at, for an evaluation. Scary, no mention of return shipping, but she was eager and helpful, I remain hopeful. So far so good.
Steiner was more matter of fact, and seemed shocked that anything that simple could have broken, maybe even annoyed. They made me fill out a form, assigned me a return authorization number, but said probably two weeks. Unfortunately the form requires you to provide a credit card to cover the return shipping, not good, but maybe they'll ship on their dime, since it was not fault of mine that it broke. Part should be metal.
I'll keep you all posted on who get my bins back first.
Ouch, ouch and ouch. You can put that silver coated compact through its paces now. No worries mon, it WILL be fun! For the race, I'm betting Swaro.
