So, I have sold my Minox 8x33.
I loved the very solid quality feel and the color-neutral, brilliant image.
But I had some problems with the eye placement while wearing glasses. In addition, I seemed never to figure out the depth of field. It was sort of confusing to me that it had some indeterminable level of sharpness in front of and beyond the real focus.
My Vortex Fury 6,5x32 solved that problem with its massive depth of field. It also made me realize I must have a clockwise focusing binocular.
The time with the Minox also helped me realize I like 10x magnification when the 6,5x is insufficient.
This is my specification of requirements:
10x40 >> 10x52 or anything in between, even 10,5x is OK.
Roof, water-proof, phase-coated, clockwise focuser, minimum FOV 330 ft/1000 yds i.e 110 m/1000 m, minimum eye relief 18 mm.
Excellent glare protection. Not stratospheric pricing.
The only binocular I can find at the moment that fulfills these requirements is the Meopro 10x42 (I am not sure about its glare protection)
- The Fury 10x42 would be great if it was equally nice as the 6,5x but it needs more eye-relief.
- The Zen-Ray ED2 should have the best optics but I really want longer eye relief.
- If the Opticron Imagic BGA SE were a clockwise focuser, I would have bought it unseen. Seems to be a very great binocular.
Has anyone tried the Meopro?
If I have missed a possible contender, drop a post and let me know.
Kind regards
L
There is really nothing to compare to ED glass 10x. Try to find a model with your eye relief.
Pentax ED glass 10x43 might do it, I have not seen, I have the regular DCF. And it is not as good as my two ED glass 10x.
I am not a big fan of 10x binoculars. But I was impressed by 10x42 ZRS HD.
