Whatever happened to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute AR coating?

I was thinking maybe we would see this kind of AR material in optical instruments by now.

quote:
(Mar. 5, 2007) A team of researchers from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has created the world's first material that reflects virtually no light.

The idea of anti-reflection coatings also could be turned on its head, according to Schubert. The ability to precisely control a material's refractive index could be used to make extremely high-reflectance mirrors, which are used in many optical components including telescopes, optoelectronic devices, and sensors.

Sounds like a great idea. But I bet it shows up in camera lenses years before it makes it into binoculars. I wonder if there would be problems with cleaning if they used it on the front elements.
