With loyal support from the BF members, it has been fun for us to work on several exciting projects in the last few years. The input from members definitely helps to shape the direction of design and manufacturing to better serve BF members' need.
In 2009, the biggest event for us was the successful introduction of ZEN ED2 8x/10x43 and 7x36 ED2 binoculars. With the feedback from members, we also upgraded ED2 to a newer design to mitigate the glare issues across all ED2 line that may have impacted a small percentage of our customers.
In 2010, we replaced 2009 ZRS with a much improved ZRS HD with dielectric prism coating that is lighter and sharper. Then, for the rest of 2010, we have been primarily focusing on the new spotting scope. The ZEN ED2 20-60x82 spotter with dielectric coating was a the result of that effort.
Fast forward into 2011, I got an earful of new ideas already from within the company. But what matters to me the most is what you (Yes, that means you, our customers, BF members) would like us to work on for 2011. Please chime in with your idea. I cannot promise that we will act on every idea. But I will promise you that we will carefully review your input. Some of the brilliant ideas (or common sense ideas) may end up in our future product line-up.
Thank you and happy New Year.
Charles
If you look at the various compact threads, people seem to want a 6x20 or 7x20 compact. If a premium compact were to become available with understated elegant design, latest dielectric coatings, waterproof and top notch optics, it might get attention. Things like the way it hangs, front or rear focus, locking (or very stable) diopter, good but not excessive eye relief (17mm?) , maybe improved FOV if possible and built to withstand a certain amount of shock would be great. I don't think ED would be necessary but it couldn't hurt. I don't know if there's enough demand but maybe worth testing the waters.
High quality 50mm portable ED scope to rival the Nikon ED50 with both wide-angle zoom and fixed EPs.
With fixed EPs for the Nikon gED50 etting more scarce and the provided short ER, narrow AFOV zoom is not the best (especially for eyeglass wearers) I think you might find new customers who haven't bough the bins or the big scope. It would make a nice complement to the 82mm scope.
And a 65mm after that.
Both scopes should be as lightweight as possible as smaller apertures appeal to people walking or hiking or biking and birding.
