where can i get custom spectacles?

I'm fed up with all the clutter hanging round my neck so I would like to get some bi-focal spectacles that will give clearance for viewing through bins and scope and allow me to look down at my notebook. They would probably be fairly round with a smaller than normal close-focus section, have scratch resistant lenses, flexible frame and soft nose-pieces.
Does anybody know where I can go to be fitted out with these?
(I have slight astigmatism so wearing no glasses is not ideal).
Ambrose.

I have lineless bifocals, they work fine. I have run into optics stores that do not know how to make them and still charge me 250. Try a different store. It has to do with the general process of making the lens (varies) and then finding where your eye is on the lens in a particular frame.

Good luck.

Hi Ambrose,
I use a varifocal lens in a normal pair of specs....no fancy close fitting frames or anything like that. If the frame is too close then you'll find your lenses will steam up due to the temperature gradient between front and back surfaces. I have full Multi Anti-reflection coatings which include a hard coat as well. The lens is set slightly lower than normal in the spectacle frame...my own are 1mm lower than normal, this gives a bigger distance area to work with.
An important thing about using your specs with bins and scope is the eye relief that your optics provide when using specs. You need to get your spec lens as close as possible to the eyepiece lens to ensure a decent field of view through the bins/scope.
Any competent Dispensing Optician will be able to advise you....look for someone with the initials FBDO, or FADO, or MFDO after their name....I should know as I am a Dispensing Optician myself
