Which binoculars?

I´m searching for the right binoculars for birdwatching and going to rock concerts in large halls or stadiums. I think zomm binoculars are quite good as the have much magnification and in case you do not need so much you can reduce it. I looked around in the internet and found interesting models from Olympus, Minolta, Bushnell, Tasco and Bresser. At the moment I prefer Olympus PC I compact zoom 10-30x25, it is relatively light and compact, has maximum factor 30 magn. and 25mm optics must be bright. The Minolta Activa 10-30x27 is also interesting but more expensive and difficult to get in Germany. Im not shure about the qulity of Bushnell, Tasco and Bresser, I think they are not as good as the others.

If somebody could give me some information I would be very grateful. Thank you very much in advance!

Sven, I'm no expert, but I've never heard a good thing said about any "zoom" binocular. The Leica Duovids are a different story, but then again, they're not really a zoom, more of a "switch power" binocular. I'd suggest you stick with a traditional 8x or 10x, with an objective lens diameter of 32mm to 42mm. It looks like you're wanting to keep things small, so the 32mm is probably the way to go.

My dear Sven,

Binoculars of power ten or greater, magnify your hand shake, causing eye strain and fatigue. Zoom binoculars, even at minimum power have very narrow fields. Which model depends on how much you wish to spend.

Happy bird watching,
