Binoculars?
Monoculars?
Spotting Scopes?
Which will be easier to take pics with and do you recommend the digiscoping or digital systems built in? i want something to take pics but dont want to get a high end Digital SLR for over 2000 canadian... also can you get a mount for an SLR film zoom camera?
Planning to spend about 500$...
Thanks..
I not sure what to advise here. Digiscoping is the obvious way to go - only it's not a straight forward technique. You can't just point and shoot. A lot of time and effort and practice is needed to get even half decent results.
The scopes with a built in camera would be far easier to use and get good results, I can only think of the Kowa TD-1 which retails at around £1500 UKP.
If it's ease of use you are looking for then may be the long zoom campact camera such as the Panasonic FZ20 with it's 12x (436mm) image stabilised lens would be more practical. If the budget stretches that far then a decent DSLR long lens combo will give the best results overall.
You can use a film SLR, it mounts the same way as a DSLR - but really they aren't very practical for digiscoping due to the weight and loss of camera functions. A compact digital camera is much easier to use to get decent results.
As regards which camera / adapter to buy then I'd advise checking out Andy Bright's Digiscoping forum as cameras, adapters and technique have already been discussed at some length. Which ones you need may depend on make/model of your scope.
Thanks...
I guess i see where your coming but paying 2000 for a slr and another 2000 for the 100-400L which i think is the best photography lens is going to be out of the question for a while...
What about the new Canon Powershot S1 IS Digital Camera which has a 10x optical zoom which i think is sufficent for what i need...but i will have to test it out before i buy it... plus its only 500$... but could i get a scope and tripod and mount for that kinda money? cause i already have a digital camera... but not that much zoom...so i think scoping is the way to go?
