I'm looking for some 8x42 Roof prism bins that would give me a reasonably wide field of view about 7 degrees and beyond. I'm not lookling to spend a great deal as they are a secondary pair. I already own a pair of nikon Action EX 7x35 which are great but I require something a bit brighter.
I am conscious that budget wide bins can suffer from sweet spot focus and distortion towards the edges, just wondered if anybody had looked through anything recently and been impressed.
Recently seen, although not tested..
Inpro Optics 8x42 Fieldtrackers advertised with 32mm eye relief and an 11 degree fov!!!
Vortex Talons 8x42 with an 8 degree fov!!
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Moondog
Here are 6 Roof Prisms that meet your requirements. All cost under $200.00. FOV goes from 367' to more than 420.' Check their other stats on the Eagle Optic's web site. The Bushnell H2O is under $100.00.
Bushnell: Excursion and H2O.
Eagle: Denali.
Stokes: Talon
Vortex: Crossfire and Sidewinder
There are numerous others between $200 and $300.

I don't think you will get a "brighter" image from any inexpensive 8x42 roof. All of them will almost certainly be dimmer than your 7x35 because the roof prisms have lower light transmission. Did you consider the 8x40 Action EX? It has the same eyepieces and prism housing as your 7x35 and an 8.25 degree field. The only difference is a larger objective with a longer focal length. It won't be any brighter but may show a little extra detail in low light from the higher magnification.
